Meal for all faiths/'Fast for the day' 2007

The challenge is to fast for a day from sunrise, which will be at 5.36am, until sunset, at 6.32pm. A Muslim would not eat or drink anything between these times.

However, if this causes difficulty we leave it to your discretion. In Islam, those who are ill or weak do not fast, so seek advice first. You can, perhaps, give up a favourite food or drink for the day instead.

Speaking on the occasion Imam Farogh Ul Qadri, the Principal Imam at the Shah Jahan Mosque said: “Righteousness is a recurring theme in the Holy Qur'an. Through fasting righteousness may be attained. This is both an attitude and a process for Muslims. Devotees may seek a proper attitude through love of the source of good and beauty that makes life worth living. Ramadan helps us to develop our moral discipline and also reminds us of the troubles of those who live in continuing hunger and deprivation. The Holy Qur'an stresses continuously that simply being religious is meaningless if it does not lead people to care and share.”

The event will give people an understanding of the place of fasting in Islam and its spiritual benefits.

When: Sunday 7 October 2007, 5.15pm
Where: the Mosque - middle hall
Notes: Food served!
